Oberammergau Passion Play 2030 Tickets and Performances
Guaranteed Passion Play Tickets
As in past years, Nawas expects to have guaranteed Oberammergau Passion Play 2030 tickets for all our programs. Further, we expect to have the largest block of First Class (Category 1) tickets with arrangements for every performance. Nawas is already in communication with the Passion Play office in Germany. As in past Play years, we will get our ticket allotment directly from the Passion Play Committee in Oberammergau. So, we can assure you that all our travelers will attend the play.
Performances
The 43rd Passion Play will premiere in May 2030. More than 500,000 spectators from around the world are expected to attend the performances of this epic, once-a-decade event.
The five-hour musical drama follows the life of Jesus from the time He entered Jerusalem to the Resurrection. Most of the Passion Play is sung opera-style with a full orchestra and chorus providing a rich musical backdrop. Over 2,000 people — nearly half the population of the village — will have parts in the production, either on stage or behind the scenes.
The modern play takes place on an open-air stage with a covered auditorium seating 4,700. With a total cast of 1,000, the play boasts 130 speaking parts and hundreds of smaller parts. To be eligible for a role, participants must have been born in Oberammergau or have lived there for at least 20 years.
Passion Play Facts
Virtually every villager’s life is dominated by the play. More than 2,000 people are directly involved, both on and behind the scenes. In addition to performers, there are 50 members each in the orchestra and chorus. Additionally, many others work as set and costume designers, electricians, stagehands, etc. Still others cater to the thousands of visitors who come to see the play.

October 2028: In a special church service, the village of Oberammergau is expected to renew its Passion Play vow, first made in 1633. As part of the festivities, the main actors for the roles of Jesus, Mary, Peter, Judas, Pontius Pilate, and Caiaphas will be introduced.
Ash Wednesday 2029: The traditional “Hair Decree.” On this date, per a long-standing tradition, all the male performers begin to grow their hair and beards in preparation for their roles in the play.
