We’re thrilled to share the exciting news that Notre Dame Cathedral, the beloved icon of Paris and a masterpiece of French Gothic architecture, has reopened to the public following an extensive, five-year restoration.
The now-gleaming cathedral is a testament to its storied past and a symbol of resilience and unity. Pope Francis sent a message that was read during the December 7 inaugural ceremony:
“Dear faithful of Paris and France, this house, which our Heavenly Father inhabits, is yours; you are its living stones…May the rebirth of this admirable church constitute a prophetic sign of the renewal of the Church of France.”
The world watched in shock on April 15, 2019, as a devastating fire engulfed Notre Dame, causing significant damage to its roof, spire, and iconic rib vaults. In addition to priceless artwork and sculptures, the cathedral also housed Christian relics, including part of Jesus’ Crown of Thorns and a piece of the crucifixion cross.
An Ambitious Restoration Project
This tragic event underscored the cathedral’s profound cultural and historical importance, prompting an outpouring of international support. Donations of more than $900 million from around the globe fueled the ambitious restoration project, uniting thousands of experts in craftsmanship, engineering, and art preservation.

Notre Dame's beautifully restored Gothic portal
Now, after years of meticulous work, Notre Dame stands renewed and radiant. The limestone façade is clean and bright. The restoration faithfully recreated the intricate details of its medieval design, from the stunning rose windows to the ornate gargoyles and soaring 315-foot spire that once again crowns the Parisian skyline. Special attention was given to preserving original elements while employing modern techniques to enhance durability and safety.
