Holy Land Pilgrimages are the cornerstone of Nawas Travel and a favorite destination for our travelers. Most Christians dream of visiting the land of Jesus’ birth, ministry, death, and resurrection. Sadly, this dream has been put on hold this year. While people are eager to follow in Our Lord’s footsteps in the Holy Land, thousands of pilgrims have delayed their spiritual journeys because of the pandemic.

Earlier Pandemics in the Holy Land

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time a pandemic has affected the Holy Land. Under the Roman Empire, there was the Antonine Plague of 165- 180 AD. Roman Empire troops returning from the Near East are suspected of bringing smallpox or measles back with them. From 249 to 262 AD, there was the Plague of Cyprian. In this case, smallpox or influenza may have been the culprit.
